Equifax faces "the worst leak of personal info ever"

data theft

Equifax, the oldest American consumer credit reporting agency, was facing last week what already some experts call “the worst leak of personal info ever”.

The company handles information from over 800 million consumers and more than 88 million businesses around the world. It has been estimated that the leak affects the personal data from over 143 million U.S. consumers and an undisclosed number of British and Canadian residents.

Whatsmore, the nightmare is not over for Equifax just yet. This week Brian Krebs Cyber-crime blogger announced that an online platform of the Argentinean’s branch office was accessible by entering “admin” both as the username and password. With these credentials, anyone could access the database of the company and expose their clients important information; ID numbers, financial records, sensitive data.

The company faces multiple legal claims and critics from users and experts worldwide. They all agree: the company has been absolutely unprofessional in protecting the sensitive data of their customers.
